A magical region steeped in history from the time of Joan of Arc and Richard the Lionheart, famous worldwide for its concentration of magnificent chateaux. Wooded roads and quiet valleys can still be found away from the well trodden tourist routes for those who like gentle cycling. The range of local wines from sparkling whites to reds, strawberries and delicious mushrooms nurtured locally and salmon from the Loire are part of this region's fare. The many species of wildflowers, over 100, have given the Loire valley the title of the Garden of France.
